Replatforming for Peak Season: 4x Traffic, Zero Downtime

Northbridge Retail's ageing storefront crashed during every festive sale and its merchandising decisions ran on month-old exports. 7x Technologies rebuilt the e-commerce platform for scale and layered Power BI dashboards on top, turning peak season from a risk into a growth engine.

The Challenge

Northbridge Retail, a home and lifestyle retailer with 42 stores and a growing online business, was running on a heavily customised monolithic storefront that had accreted seven years of patches. Page loads averaged over six seconds on mobile, checkout failed intermittently under load, and the platform had gone down during two consecutive Diwali sales — the two most profitable weeks of the year. Online inventory was synced from the store ERP just once a night, so popular items oversold routinely and cancellations eroded customer trust.

Just as painful was the absence of usable data. Merchandising and finance teams worked from CSV exports that were weeks old by the time they were analysed. Questions as basic as which categories were profitable after returns and discounts took days to answer, and stocking decisions for 42 stores were made largely on instinct.

The Solution

7x Technologies rebuilt the storefront on a modern headless architecture: a Next.js/React front end served from a global CDN, backed by .NET microservices for catalogue, cart, pricing, and checkout, each independently scalable on Azure Kubernetes Service. Inventory now syncs from the store ERP in near real time through an event-driven integration layer, so online availability reflects what is actually on the shelf across the network.

Performance and resilience were treated as features. Server-side rendering and image optimisation brought mobile page loads under 1.5 seconds, and load testing against 5x projected peak traffic was part of the definition of done for every release. Checkout was rebuilt with multiple payment gateway failover, and the platform is monitored end-to-end with automated alerting.

On the intelligence side, 7x built a retail data warehouse on Azure and a suite of Power BI dashboards covering sales velocity, category margin after returns and discounts, store-versus-online performance, and inventory ageing. Buyers now walk into Monday trading meetings with yesterday's numbers instead of last month's.

Client testimonial

Our old storefront buckled every festive season; the platform 7x built sailed through Diwali at four times last year's traffic without a hiccup. The BI dashboards they layered on top mean my merchandising team now makes stocking decisions from data, not gut feel.
